How to Prepare Best Nigerian Jollof Rice [PHOTOS]

Hello Nigerian food lovers, today, we will be teaching you with pictures, how to prepare the best Nigerian jollof rice that will keep your spouse, kids, siblings, and friends asking for more.

Remember, this is not the traditional jollof rice you probably have been cooking and eating, this one is a very special and tasty jollof rice that will keep you salivating and asking for more.

The ingredients



Seafoods -

Bay leaf (4 leafs)
Red onion
Tomato puree (one tin)
Tomato plum (one tin)
Chops tomatoes
Red pepper (4 pieces)
Scotch bonnet (2 pieces)
Mixed herbs
Aroma seasoning
Knoor cube (1 cube)
Vegetable oil


Blend the red pepper, scotch bonnet and add the tomato puree, plum and mix together to form blended paste.

Pre-boil your rice and wash, then keep separately.

- Switch on your stove.
Add small quantity of vegetable oil into a dry pot heating on a stove

- Add small quantity of vegetable oil in a dry pot (big enough to contain the quantity of rice you want to prepare)

- Heat up for 2 - 3 minutes

- Add your blended pepper + seasoning + Knoor cube (use your thumb to grind to powder) + mixed herbs + salt

- Add four bay leafs and then stir the whole content to mix, cover up the pot and allow it to fry for about 5 minutes.

- Then add your pre-boiled/washed rice
Pour in the pre-boiled rice

Note: reduce the cooker heat level at this point because jollof rice requires very low heat because its the steaming that cooks the rice and not the excess heat

Cover up the pot for like 25 minutes, but please keep checking it so it doesn't get burnt

After 20 - 25 minutes, remove the pot cover and add 2 teaspoons of butter

Add 2 teaspoons of butter

The butter helps give the jollof rice a very nice texture and taste too

- Now, add your seafood selection as shown in the picture, and also add your sliced chops tomatoes and red onions.

Stir entire content as much as you can to blend everything together and allow to boil for another 3 - 5 minutes and its ready to be served.

You can serve with fried ripe plantain and grilled chicken as shown in the picture.
